AL West: Cortes back in the A's outfield mix

Athletics

With Brent Rooker requiring knee surgery that will end his season, the A’s have a new opening in their lineup. Rooker's absence had already opened up the DH position, but now it’s open for the rest of the season. This will allow for a nice platoon and open up other playing time opportunities, as the A’s keep adding more and more players who can play all over the diamond.

With Rooker out, the easy DH platoon is between Carlos Cortes on the strong side and then Jonah Heim and Colby Thomas. Cortes had lost his playing time to Lawrence Butler in the A’s outfield, but over his last three games back on regular playing time versus RHP, Cortes hit safely in all three games with two extra-base hits. Maybe he can get things...
