After posting a .959 OPS last season, the second-highest in his career, George Springer looked to be defying the aging curve. However, the 36-year-old has had a disappointing follow-up this year, posting a .708 OPS, the second-lowest of his career.
Springer looked to be showing signs of breaking past his season-long struggles with a resurgent July (.290/.362/.516) in 69 PA, which was driven by making hard contact (90.6 mph EV), a figure more in line with his 2025 season (89.9 mph EV) than his 2026 trend (88.0 mph EV).
In August, though, Springer’s offensive performance has taken a sharp downturn (.262/.310/.338 in 71 PA) coinciding with his ability to make hard contact cratering (85.6 mph EV). Given the sharp decline in...
