GM's OFFICE: A Walk through the 2021 PQS logs

One of the long-standing starting pitching evaluation tools exclusive to BaseballHQ.com is our Pure Quality Start (PQS) metric. PQS first appeared at BaseballHQ.com during the 2001 season, and since 2002, it's been an important part of our Baseball Forecaster pitching toolbox. Though we’ve had to tweak the formula some over the years (this link provides the backstory, revised formula and basis for those not familiar with PQS; this one provides some follow-up Q&A), it still fulfills its goal of giving us a skills-based grade on each individual start.

Of course, at PQS's beginning, we were more than a decade away from the public pitch-tracking systems that have become the norm for modern pitching analysis. As data like a pitchers's pitch...
